Covid: Day Five

This will probably be my last daily post during my Covid quarantine. I'll stay in this room for a few more days to ensure that A doesn't get it. But I think this little format has run out of steam.

Just a straight-up wall.

This will probably be my last daily post during my Covid quarantine. I'll stay in this room for a few more days to ensure that A doesn't get it. But I think this little format has run out of steam. One interesting note from today, though. Jekyll pissed me off so hard that I've decided to switch my site over to Ghost.

I read a book on kettlebell programming by Pavel that said: "Elbow hurt? It's your fault." (Or something like that.) The same is certainly true of Jekyll. I have a fairly deep knowledge of Terminal, text-editors, Markdown, Ruby, and other technical elements involved in using Jekyll. More than the average guy, at least. But I feel like I've made my bones using Jekyll for years, and I'm sick of the constant Terminal troubleshooting. I'm just done. Call it weakness.

So, I'll be in the process of migrating all my stuff to this new site on Ghost. You'll see that a lot of it is already here. There are a lot of upsides:

  • Folks can sign-up to my blog now, should they want to.
  • I can schedule posts into the future now. I already have a few written and am going to be writing some more to schedule out. This will hopefully lead to more writing, more often.
  • I can have a lot more types of content here. I'm thinking of weekly music and movie recommendations. Let me know if you have other ideas.
  • I'll be setting up a comments section.

The one downside is obvious. My old site looked cool, and I spent a lot of time adding my personal flair / style to it. This site, at least currently, does not look cool. I'm going to do my best to address that. But it's going to take some time.

Yours in gradual healing,

Rick
